History of the Mt Tamalpais Railroad:

Description and History:
Graphic with a transparent background, and a blue plumb emblem showcases a winding railway track representing the Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods Scenic Railway in California.

“Plumb is the vertical equivalent to a spirit level. Plumb bob has been around for thousands of years, dating back to Ancient Egypt. The tool is also used in surveying, allowing the user to find nadir (the local vertical direction pointing towards gravity), and in tools such as steel tape and theodolites.”

Source Leaflet – ‘Mill Valley and Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway’, Mill Valley, California, U.S.A., 1911. The leaflet provided travel information about Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods, and the scenic railway, claimed to be ‘The Crookedest Railroad in the World’.
